Robert Downey Jr. Is on a Mission to Clean Up the Earth in 10 Years and Proves He’s a Real-Life Tony Stark

You may think only a Marvel superhero could save our planet from an environmental crisis, but this time, actor Robert Downey Jr., Iron Man’s alter ego, has come to the rescue with a plan he believes will clean the earth in a decade. And the best part: he’s planning on using a tool taken straight out of science fiction movies.

If you love Marvel movies, then you already know that Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Tony Stark, is a mastermind committed to saving the world using advanced technology. And today, it seems that the actor is ready to follow Iron Man’s example. He has just announced that he’ll be launching a new organization in 2020 called The Footprint Coalition. His plan? To clean up the entire planet with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in 10 years.

The actor made the announcement during his speech at the Amazon Re: Mars (machine learning, automation, robotics, and space) conference, a meeting that addressed the advantages of advanced robotics and machines, especially those of artificial intelligence. The actor didn’t share many details about the project, but knowing that books and movies have spread the idea that AI is dangerous and possibly evil, he made it clear that it actually can be beneficial to humans if used to do good.

“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” the actor stated to the audience. He also took some time to reveal his admiration for the scientists and researchers that provided him with the high-level intelligence behind the project “God, I love experts,” he said in a very Tony Stark-like fashion. “They’re like Wikipedia with character defects.”
